The 504

about

Featuring Nate Cameron, Jr.

Sometimes it just starts with the bass. I was out for a walk when the groove came to me. I vocalized it into my voice recorder and sent it over to Nate Cameron, Jr. “Write something about home,” I said. He came back with the first verse and the hook. I followed up with the second verse, and the rest is history. We wrote this song as an homage to the great city that brought us up. Without a doubt, this song is all of New Orleans but especially the New Orleans that we knew before the storm.

lyrics

The 504
Tell ya’ bout a funky lil place I know
Way down past the swamp and the moss
Things ain’t big in the easy like they once were
But the people still are tough

You ain’t gotta wait till the weekend
to catch a live band with that groove
You can eat all day, dance all night
and walk around with your booze

I done been all over the world
Seen beauty from coast to coast
But there’s still one place at the bottom of the map were
Folks are the most

The 504, it’s New Orleans
The 504

Gherttown, Niggatown, Holygrove, Magnolia to the Melpomene
The sun shines brighter when it shines on the Gulf Coast
The finest thing you ever seen
Lower 9, Gentilly, Uptown, Midcity, jumping til the break o’ day
They all wanna know where I got dat swag from
I got it down in Treme

I done been all over the world
Seen beauty from coast to coast
But there’s still one place at the bottom of the map were
Folks are the most

The 504, it’s New Orleans
The 504
Lemme tellya bout where I'm from

Ooh nah nay we got the fire
A whole lot of soul, passion, and desire
Roots run deep, more than jambalaya
been through it all down here in the bayou
Ooh nah nay we got the fire
A whole lot of soul, passion, and desire
Roots run deep, more than jambalaya
Been through it all…
In the 504
